The popular adage that a wolf cannot give birth to a goat played out last Saturday as Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state disrupted an anti-corruption rally held in Uyo. Udom was anointed by the immediate-past governor of the state, Godswill Akpabio as his successor.
The rally which was organized by a pro- APC group, Buhari Friends Organisation Network, our paper learnt, had been approved by relevant security agencies in the state.
Our paper further gathered that the event held to sensitize the general public on the menace of corruption was to have as guest speakers eminent Nigerians from all walks of life, one of whom a retired Chief Judge from Abia state.
It was further learnt that the group, which is led by Saint Athanasius Okon as National Coordinator\ International President decided that Akwa Ibom being their Headquarters in the South-south should be used to kick off the rally expected to be held in all the six geo-political zones of the country. It was revealed that Udom, a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governor who was not comfortable with the anti-corruption stance of the group, coupled with fact that they are pro- APC led national government of President Buhari, ordered the withdrawal of all security details attached to the rally’s convoy and threatened the group to stop the campaign or face the consequence. More details later.
