…‘We did not conduct state congress in Akwa Ibom’- APC Panel

By Jerry Francis, theprofilenews.com

The Committee of five members sent to Akwa Ibom state to conduct the State Congress for the All Progressives Congress, APC, has admitted that it did not conduct the said congress as directed by the national headquarters of the party.

Meanwhile, the controversial report in its first paragraph was contradictory as it stated to wit: “The committee of five members sent to Akwa Ibom state successfully conducted the congress on Saturday 19th day of May, 2018”, but owned up in the third paragraph that the “consensus list” for Akwa Ibom Chapter was arrived at after “marathon meetings”, therefore no need to conduct any election by ballot.

Other parts of the report which was exclusively obtained by theprofilenews.com reads: “On arrival in the state, the committee met the State Chairman and got briefing. After which a meeting of stakeholders was to be convened. However, the elders and other stakeholders requested for a meeting of their group in order to reach a consensus on the election and formation of the Exco.

“At the end of the marathon meeting, the stakeholders were able to reach an agreement on a consensus list which was agreed by all the major elders and stakeholder(sic) at the meeting. So, a consensus list was presented to the committee and therefore there was no need for conducting any election by ballot.

“The congress was convened, where more than 90% of delegates were in attendance at the SHARE (sic) ARENA. At the congress, the list of new state Exco was read to delegates. (This venue was used because the state government denied us the use of all public venues). The congress resolved to approve the new Exco by voice vote. The matter was put to vote, and what sounded like all the delegates voted YES!

“The Party leaders in the State have (sic) earlier notified the INEC and all security agencies in the state and, these agencies have (sic) given full and adequate coverage to the congress”.

In a related development, the truce reached between Sen. John Udoedeghe on one side and Obong Nsima Ekere, Sen. Ita Enang and Obong Umana Okon Umana on the other hand, on the Akwa Ibom APC crisis, has crashed.

A competent source in Udoedeghe’s camp told this paper that the irredeemable breakup was due to what they (Udoedeghe’s camp) saw as a breach of agreement reached by elders of the party. He said that the terms of the truce was that the 2014 exco lists should be adopted in toto.

According to our source “They have shown that they were not sincere by smuggling-in exco lists quite different from what we agreed on. They changed our people like the State Youth Leader, Idara Udoh and others, and secretly went ahead to swear them in. That is rubbish. They have also made attempts to change nearly all the Chapter Chairmen. They only retained Nsit Ibom because of Emah Bassey, and two others. That is not what we agreed upon.

“We suspected it from the beginning. All they are trying to do is to have their Chapter Chairmen so that they would give Nsima Ekere governorship ticket of the party in 2019. Let’s see how that would work”.

Our paper also gathered that Sen. Udoedeghe’s ‘men’ were not at Sheer Grace arena last week when the Ini Okopido faction of the APC State Executives was inaugurated.

It was also learnt that the factional State Deputy Chairman, Dr. Ita Udosen, who as learnt, was nominated by Nsima Ekere’s camp, boycotted the Chapter and Ward Executives inauguration conducted by Udoedeghe’s men in Ibesikpo Asutan Local government area, his home town.

In Etinan, our Paper gathered that while Nsima Ekere’s faction, spearheaded by Dr. Friday Etuk, conducted its Chapter and Ward inauguration last Monday, at a certain location (not the APC Chapter Secretariat along Uyo/ Etinan Road) in Ikot Ebo, with one Idorenyin Thompson as factional Chapter Chairman, Udoedeghe’s men, led by Enefiok Jackson, had their inauguration at the residence of ‘their’ Chapter Chairman, Mr. Nkereuwem Akpan, in Ekom Iman. It was learnt that similar trend played out across all chapters in the state.

Meanwhile, our paper gathered from the Dr. Udoma Ekarika-led State exco that the suit challenging the ‘consensus’ emergence of Ini Okpido, has been filed in an Abuja court. A source who confided in our paper noted that defendants in the case have been served notice of summons.
