The youths of Oro Nation in AkwaIbom State have faulted and condemned in strong terms, the recent jaundiced and misleading comment reported in the state government electronic media, crediting to Governor Udom Emmanuel to the effect that President MuhammaduBuhari took a wrong step in elongating the tenure of the current Rector of Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron and not upgrading the Academy to Maritime University as agitated by the former Governor GodswillAkpabio and himself.

The Oro Nation youths, under the aegis of coalition of Oro Nation Community youth leaders, during a press conference in Oron Civic Centre, noted that the provocative gloating coming from a person of Mr. Udom Emmanuel who stole the 2015 governorship mandate and the ancestral right of Oro Nation is indiscreet, particularly when he speaks from the point of sheer ignorance about the specialized and technical nature of Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron and in a failed attempt to paint a prim picture of Amb. (Dr.) Joshua Okpo who had, in the past four years transformed the landscape of the Premier Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron to the delight and satisfaction of relevant stakeholders and placed it on the global maritime map of reckoning.

The Acting President of the body Comrade UsuyakAtting maintained that Governor Udom Emmanuel is not only bereft of knowledge and idea about the dynamics and technicality of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, but he is also a busy body who pretends to show concern about the development of an ethnic nationality that has benefitted immensely from Amb. (Dr.) Joshua Okpo-led administration via provision of Corporate Social Responsibility to the host community and training of youths in various skills for self-reliant, after eight years of hardship, pains, criminal marginalization and gross injustice meted on Oro people during his predecessor’s traumatized administration. “But for clarity of facts, we would have ignored what can best be described as the rantings of a visionless administrator and a leader who lacks direction, and whose mission is to continue to insult the sensibilities of elders of Oro nation as his Predecessor did”.

“It is rather unfortunate that Governor Udom Emmanuel has forgotten in a hurry that Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron is a Federal Government-owned institution and not a Secondary School in Awa Iman, Onna or State-owned tertiary institutions.

It is the prerogative and statutory responsibility of the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria, to decide on the status of any federal government institution in Nigeria and appoint their heads.

Not a caretaker governor like Udom Emmanuel. Since he is against the tenure elongation of a man who has satisfied Mr. President and entire Nigerians, through his result-oriented leadership, Mr.Udom Emmanuel will never succeed in any second term aspiration, that is if he wins the protracted legal battle in the Election Tribunal in Abuja,” Comrade Atting prayed.

The Oro community Youth leader who was flanked by his Secretary, Ulap Kenneth Asuquo, Public Relations Officer, Mr. Nduonofit Mathew stated that Oro youths would not be fooled nor carjoled by the antics of Udom Emmanuel and his co-travellers on the status of Maritime Academy, describing his recent comment on the Rector and the institution as a direct affront and gross intentional disrespect to Mr. President who reappointed Dr. Joshua Okpo for a second term of four years as Rector, MAN, Oron.

“We want to use this press conference to advise the AkwaIbom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel to concentrate on his clueless industrialization project and arrest the ageing infrastructural deficit in Oro nation, rather than dabbling into federal government issues.

“We will resist stoutly, any attempt by individuals or groups to derail the focused administration of Ambassador (Dr.) Joshua Okpo in Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron”, Comrade Atting, fumed”.

It would be recalled that Governor Udom Emmanuel, during the last Saturday monthly prayer meeting in the Government House, Uyo, described as selfish, the recent visit to the Presidency by some elders to drum support for the tenure elongation of the Rector, Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron and their prayers to the President to forgo the “proposed” plan by government to make the institution a University.

This was announced in AkwaIbom Broadcasting Corporation (AKBC) on Saturday August 15, Sunday August 16, 2015.

The Oro youths who gave the Rector a pat on the back, observed that the reappointment of the Rector is an eloquent testimony to Mr. President’s detribalized disposition in rewarding excellence, hardwork and dedication to quality service delivery, as exhibited by Amb. (Dr.) Joshua Okpo’s undeterred commitment towards upgrading the Academy to a degree-awarding institution and government electronic media, crediting to Governor Udom Emmanuel to the effect that President MuhammaduBuhari took a wrong step in elongating the tenure of the current Rector of Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron and not upgrading the Academy to Maritime University as agitated by the former Governor GodswillAkpabio and himself.

Comrade Atting raised alarm over a plot by Governor Udom Emmanuel to use a Senator representing Eket Senatorial District, Chief Nelson Effiong and other Oro sons in government to prevail on Mr. President through a press conference to appoint a Vice Chancellor for MAN, Oron and make the institution a university.

“We will resist this fruitless effort of the governor and his agents to disgrace Mr. President. Udom should not play his kindergarten politics with the future of an institution which is in the white list of International Maritime Organisation (IMO)”, Oro youths warned.
