Akwa Ibom Gov, Udom with REC, Igini

If the confession of an arrested chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, that the Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, in his possession were supplied to him by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is anything to be relied upon, then the All Progressives Congress, APC, Akwa Ibom state, may have been right when it accused the state’s leadership of INEC of colluding with PDP to rig the 2019 elections.

This revelation came from a member of Executive of the PDP, Mkpat Enin Chapter, Mr. Anietie Peter Nsiaenang, who alleged that the over 200 Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) recovered from him by the police were given to him by officials of INEC.

Speaking to newsmen at the Headquarters of Akwa Ibom State Police Command in Uyo while being paraded alongside other suspects arrested on the eve of last Saturday’s postponed Presidential and National Assembly elections, Mr. Nsiaenang claimed he was nabbed in the process of distributing the PVCs to the owners, a claim which contradicts the established norm of INEC.

The electoral umpire (INEC) is solely responsible for the disbursement of PVCs and other electoral materials.
Though he claimed to be the PDP Chairman in Ikpa Ibom Ward 2, investigations revealed that the suspect is actually a former Ward Chairman, and currently, an Ex-Officio member of the party in Mkpat Enin.

It would be recalled that the APC in Akwa Ibom state has been calling for the redeployment of the state’s REC, Mr. Mike Igini, accusing him of colluding with PDP in the state to rig the forthcoming election.
