The member representing Nsit Atai State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon (Mrs.) Sarah Elijah, has promised to continue her human empowerment scheme and other life –touching programmes if re-elected to represent the area, come April 11, 2015.

Hon. Sarah, who is seeking a reelection on the platform of the Labour Party, LP, gave this pledge at the Civic Center, Odot in Nsit Atai Local Government Area while constituting her 2015 re-election Campaign Committee on Monday, February 16, 2015.

The Lawmaker while thanking the people of Nsit Atai for their support so far also pledged to re-double her efforts at bringing the dividends of democracy closer to the people. She maintained that her first tenure in the House of assembly had proven that if the right people are sent to represent the Constituency, the area could witness a massive turn around, unlike before when representatives would often come back with nothing to show for.

Mrs. Sarah, while appreciating her Campaign committee whom she described as a conglomeration of reputed Politicians, for accepting to be part of the rescue mission for Nsit Atai people, also expressed her hope that  her constituents would compensate her efforts in the her first tenure by supporting her re-election bid.

In his acceptance speech, the Chairman of the Campaign Committee, Rt. Hon. Edet George, who is also the former Vice Chairman of Nsit Atai LGA, thanked the Lawmaker for finding him and other members of the committee fit for the job.

Edet, a one -time Supervisor for Chieftaincy Affairs in the Local Government Council also revealed that he was moved to support and work for the reelection of Hon. Sarah by her track record in the State’s Assembly. He noted with delight how the Lawmaker, within her first tenure in the legislature initiated and completed more than eight life-touching projects scattered across the constituency.

“This is the first time we have an effective representation for Nsit Atai people. Before now, we used to hear that there is no money in the State Assembly. Other Representatives from this area used to tell us that their job is only to make laws. But here is a Legislator who, in addition to her lawmaking, has touched the lives of many through her numerous empowerment programmes. She has also initiated and completed within her first tenure some life-touching projects across Nsit Atai…I don’t mean projects on the radio, I mean verifiable projects which are there for everybody to see”, Rt. Hon. Edet said.

While addressing Hon. Sarah’s supporters who attended the event, the Campaign committee chairman continued, “…if you go to Ibia Ikot, Ubetim ward 3, you will see a four-in-one classroom block; the same thing at Akpan Ofop in Afaha. There is also a two bedroom flat built by Hon. Sarah Elijah as Principal Quarters at the Community Secondary School, Odot as well as the mini -water scheme at the Police station. She has also built a Primary Healthcare center at Ikot Obio Ita, Ndisiak and another four-in-one classroom block with VIP toilet at Okoro Atai, Ibedu.

“This Civic center, where we are all seated here today is another testimony of Hon. Sarah’s people-oriented representation. She built and handed it over to the community. If you go to Ikot Inyang, you are going to see a 2-bedroom flat built and completed for a widow there…the list is endless. So we have many reasons to support her to continue in her good works. I am happy today because my work is very simple. We already have a good and marketable product which would not be difficult to sell to Nsit atai people…”

Earlier in his address, a frontline Politician in the area, Prince (Obong) Sunny Elijah, who is incidentally the husband to the Honourable Member, thanked the wife for making him and Nsit Atai people proud through her numerous achievements in the House of Assembly. While thanking the members of the campaign Committee for accepting to be stakeholders in the rescue mission project, Obong Elijah also used the occasion to announce his formal defection from his former party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), adding that alongside his wife who is the flag bearer of his new party, he has formally joined the Labour party, LP.
