Dombelt Foundation has indicated interest to build Multi-lingual resource centre in Akwa Ibom State. The project manager of the Foundation, Mr. Godswill Alubana disclosed this during a courtesy visit on the commissioner or education, Elder Aniekan S. Akpan recently. The Nigerian – owned company works in partnership with the government of Canada to promote international languages across the globe.
The Resource Centre, if approved by the government, aims at teaching, translating and promoting international languages in the fast-knitted globalized family. Mr. Alubara told newsmen in a chat that DOMBELT has done some homework with the relevant government department and they would forward the necessary documents to the commissioner for education for perusal before briefing Governor Udom Emmanuel.
On what the people of the state would stand to gain, the project manager explained that apart from creating employment and foreign training for the employees from the state, the people would not be left out in the international events. He recalled that sometime in 2011 the foundation had donated 500 French textbooks to the state government to promote the language in the state. The project manager also revealed that DOMBELT foundation would start with three key languages namely: French Spanish and German even as they are also in partnership with stakeholders in Hebrew, Chinese and Latin American languages.
DOMBELT foundation has EHP as a major donor for her expansion and development. It is a reputable donor agency headquartered in Spain with Nigerian Office in Abuja . DOMBELT has already established as multi-lingual centre in Lagos and is targeting Akwa Ibom State as the second beneficiary of the resource centre. It was gathered that DOMBELT has expressed the willingness to contribute about 75 percent of the total cost even as they have set 6 months for possible completion of the project.
Earlier the commissioner for Education, Elder Aniekan Akpan had appreciated them for the visit and promised to take the message to the state Chief Executive, Mr. Udom Emmanuel.
