Nigerians across the nation have continued to appreciate His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari on his administration’s victory over the hitherto invincible Boko Haram insurgents in the nort- eastern part of the country. Nigerians who have been reacting to what some of them described as victory over evil said no problem was insurmountable when met with determination to conquer.
In a chat with The Profile Newspaper in Asaba, Delta state on Saturday, the Secretary-General of Ndigbo Artisans Club, Asaba Branch, Mr. Nonso Chimaroke, noted with delight what he called a consistent expression of determination and political will to fight the dreaded Boko Haram and other forms of insurgency in the country by the Buhari-led administration. He also took a swipe at critics whom he said had insinuated that it was Buhari who sponsored insurgency in the country.
Chimaroke, who spoke at the end of their monthly general meeting, was reacting to yesterday’s conviction of forty-five members of the now degraded Boko Haram group, said the development had once again proved to Nigerians that President Muhammadu meant well for the country.
His words: “We are on course. Nigeria is moving in the right direction irrespective of distractions here and there. President Muhammadu Buhari has shown a great deal of determination and political will to tackle insurgency in the country. What happened yesterday is a testimony to that fact. You and I know that before now, Boko Haram was seemingly invincible. But today, President Buhari’s administration has not only degraded them in the battle field, he has summed up a political will to ensure a proper prosecution of the apprehended members. Their conviction by a court of competent jurisdiction is a clear signal to their end”.
While describing the President’s critics as those wishing to take Nigeria back to what he called “pre-Buhari era”, the Igbo-born artisan opined that some of them should rather hang their heads in shame, having been alive to witness the defeat of what they could not defeat.
“We know those who criticize President Buhari and his party. I they are those who want to take us back to the pre-Buhari era. We can’t follow them. We were in this country; we knew how it was before the advent of Buhari administration. Some of us lost our belongings in the north. Some of us are yet to recover from those losses. Before the APC (All Progressives Congress) won the Presidential election in 2015, they were accusing Buhari of sponsoring Boko Haram. But today, the same man is the one fighting the same boko haram to a stand-still. So I think they should rather hang their heads in shame that they are alive to witness someone conquer what they could not”.
It would be recalled that a Federal High Court sitting in Kainji, Niger state, had sentenced to between 3 and 31 years in jail a total of 45 members of the boko Haram insurgents, which was a conclusion of the first phase of trial of 575 members of the sect.
