It seems the 2015 Governorship primaries in Akwa Ibom State will be full of surprises; and from all indications, the battle may not be won by the stronger or highest bidder, but by the swift.
Our paper gathered that the musician, Kufre-Abasi Amos Inyang, popularly known as Alpha Kuffa, has indicated his interest to enlist in the 2015 Guber race in the State.
The musician turned politician, who hails from Nsit Atai Local Government Area, has yet to make an official declaration, but has confirmed his desire to run on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Nsit Atai born artiste, was in 1996 elected as the Member representing Nsit Atai in the State House of Assembly, against the wishes of the power brokers. He was elected along with the former Deputy Governor Nsima Ekere, Bishop Samuel Akpan, and Hon Nse Ntuen; and was about to be sworn in when the then Head of State, General Sani Abacha aborted the Transition Programme.
Alpha Kuffa, who is the youngest brother to a Nigerian born American scientist, Professor Hillary Inyang, (the present Vice Chancellor of the University of Botswana, and a one-time Vice Chancellor of African Union University), is alleged to be sponsored by powerful power-brokers in Abuja, including the former National Security Adviser Ismaila Gwarzo, who is married to one of his sisters; Dr Ruben Abati who he met at the Theatre Arts Department of the University of Calabar; Asari Dokubo, among others.
The University of Calabar graduate had been a godson of Obong Etukudo Ekproh. He was a founding member of AKPF, and was instrumental to the election of two Chairmen of his Local Government Area.
